Construction managementIn early 2023, Akuro was asked to manage the refurbishment of Ascom's premises at Sankt Jörgen in Gothenburg. The aim of the project is to modernise both the property and the ways of working for Ascom's approximately 260 employees in Gothenburg.

This is to be achieved through an activity-based office in an open-plan layout with an adjoining lab within the property, helping to create opportunities for greater collaboration. The works are carried out in two stages, as the building is divided into Building A and Building B.

In addition to the major fit-out, the building's installations have been replaced to improve energy efficiency. For example, the old electric radiators have been removed and new ground-source heat pumps installed. Ascom is a global supplier of communication solutions for, among others, the healthcare sector. As a result, Ascom's office houses a great deal of critical technology that must remain operational around the clock.

"One challenge in the project has been ensuring the operation of the server room that serves Ascom globally, as well as keeping the lab running throughout the refurbishment. Among other things, this has involved major safety considerations, careful sealing to prevent dust from entering the server room, and extra caution when handling cabling. Ascom needs full access to the server space and the lab areas in the basement throughout the project, which means an extra focus on health and safety matters and on collaboration with operations." - says our project manager Per-Jonas Nilsson.

Ascom is expected to be able to move into Building A on 1 March and Building B on 1 September, later this year.
