Akuro is responsible for Vasakronan's NTI-Gymnasiet project, the renovation of premises for the tenant AcadeMedia's NTI Gymnasium on Kronhusgatan. The project means the building will be connected to the school's current premises, so that the NTI Gymnasium's Business Programme will sit wall to wall with its IT Programme. For AcadeMedia, this will mean that teachers can work at both schools and that they will be able to share a school nurse, dining halls and more. To make this possible, Vasakronan has chosen to renovate a 19th-century building located in an old block in the heart of Gothenburg.

"This brings many structural and technical challenges, and together with the contractor Vestia we are constantly working to find the smartest solutions. Accessibility and fire safety requirements are checked continuously throughout the project," says Kristina.

"We were worried that we would not achieve sufficient ceiling height, but by working with ramps, floor levelling and smart technical solutions we will meet all the requirements."

Given the central location, logistics is a major challenge, as we have no storage space either indoors or outdoors. The contractor Vestia solves this by lifting materials in through the windows and keeping the site well organised. Fun, at times nerve-racking, and challenging!

Vasakronan sets high demands on the project's environmental work, and the project aims to reuse as much as possible. The project minimises waste and reuses the building components that are removed.

Ventilation ducts, cable ladders, sanitary ware, kitchenettes, doors and glazed partitions have been given new life – almost 100% of the suspended ceiling is being reused. In addition to reuse, the project requires all deliveries to run on fossil-free fuel.

Construction began in the summer of 2023, and students are expected to be able to move into the new premises for the autumn term of 2024.
