- Reuse coordination
- Climate coordination
Environmental coordinationOn Hisingen stands Toleredsskolan, one of many school buildings owned by Stadsfastighetsförvaltningen (the City Property Management Administration), City of Gothenburg. The school comprises several different buildings from various decades, the most recent addition having been completed in 2022. Akuro is involved during the feasibility study and design phases in the roles of reuse, climate and environmental coordinator. The assignment is carried out on behalf of the lead consultant ABAKO Arkitektkontor AB, which is also the architect on the project.
Anna Chu, who joined us in January this year, was thrown into the project almost immediately alongside Johanna Hector Lund; the project has been running since the turn of the year.
"So far, what we have spent the most time on in our role has been driving and supporting the reuse work. Every project has its own conditions, and based on those and the client's ambition, we have helped to define, early in the project, what the goals for the reuse work mean in practice. We have also supported the design team in the actual way of designing reuse into a project, since most of them have not worked this way before." – Anna
Although the willingness to work with reuse has increased sharply across the industry recently, there is always room for improvement. Everyone in the industry needs to deepen their knowledge of how they, from their own professional standpoint, need to contribute to the reuse work. Reuse in this project involves balancing the building's cultural-historical value, resource efficiency, and current requirements for fire safety, acoustics and accessibility – a complex but exciting challenge!
"Early, concrete goals for reuse, based on an overall reuse inventory, are essential. Decisions in principle about which reuse to prioritise must also be made early to avoid cost-driving investigations and ambiguity." – Johanna
"Working on Toleredsskolan is incredibly rewarding and instructive. We at Akuro are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an important public project while also being part of developing working methods and spreading knowledge." – Anna
The project is divided into stages for the different parts of the building and also includes two options. The feasibility study and design work will continue through the autumn and potentially into 2025 as well.
