The "Norr om Nordstan" (North of Nordstan) area is an important piece of the puzzle in the development of the Centralen area in Gothenburg. A new detailed development plan is currently out for review at the City of Gothenburg. The new plan includes a significant addition of offices, a hotel and retail, among other things, in an area that is currently perceived as a back side. The new plan enables development rights for the expansion of Nordstan and thereby the opportunity to create a new, attractive entrance facing Kanaltorgsgatan.
One of the Västlänken exits in the "Centralen" stage is planned to emerge on the north-eastern corner of Nordstan's Block 7. Walkways within the shopping centre will be adapted to make the most of the new potential flow of customers and visitors.
New, attractive spaces are being planned during the project's development phase. Initially, preparations are under way along with the management of works that are a direct consequence of Västlänken's progress. Traffic flows in Nordstan's car park and the service road are to be changed to suit the new infrastructure in the area.
A new, attractive entrance and a pedestrian street on the eastern side of Spannmålsgatan will be rebuilt. In parallel, a number of tenant adaptations will be carried out, and a feasibility study is being conducted for the development phase.

"We are delighted to be entrusted with taking part in this incredibly complex and enjoyable project. The phrase 'the challenges are many' feels like an understatement. Rebuilding a car park, walkways and shops in the middle of one of Sweden's largest shopping centres while it remains in operation is one thing in itself. Now we also have to synchronise timing and execution with the Swedish Transport Administration building a new railway tunnel under the city that is to be connected into the property.
At the same time, enormous development is taking place in the surrounding area, including new streets and squares. It will be exciting and instructive to help drive a giant project like this through. It will be great to see Nordstan, in a few years' time, as a new and attractive entrance to Gothenburg."
